Anyone think the fat content in LoCarb is high?
I ve never done the LoCarb plan before, and starting my second week on it. The fat content seeems a little high. Based of calculations 30-48 grams a day seems to be my reccommended intake and meals sometimes contain 91 grams of fat a day. I love the lo carb aspect, but am I substituting this for high fat? Im considering now switching to lofat traditional 1200 but fear it will be too low. But it may be better to have and supplement lo carb snacks then the lo carb plan and add carb healthy carb snacks.

Where's the fat coming from?
My biggest question after seeing and eating the food, and looking at the nutritional info is...where are those high fat grams coming from? Example - The Beef Short Ribs in Creamy Mushroom Sauce shows 609 calories and 53 grams of fat! The short ribs (which had an awesome flavor and texture!) weighed 2 oz! It was accompanied by a few bites of veggies (asparagus or broccoli...i can't remember)...I've been logging food into SparkPeople.com for a loooong time, and the figures just seem a bit off. I'd really like some info on the fat nutrition info, as it seems 2 ounces of beef and 1/4 cup of sauce (unless maybe it's pure lard?) could not have that much fat. Same question for the Prime Rib w/Red Wine Sauce. Looking at the ingredients, I see more sugar (in the sauce) than I do things that would equal 45 grams of fat. Anyone?
fat content of low carb diet
I have read a lot about low carb diets. I went on the Suzanne Somers diet about 6 years ago and lost 40 pounds. But even more important, my cholesterol went down from 211 to 187 in 4 months! I was eating eggs and bacon and sour cream and butter and meat and cheese at almost every meal. It proved to me that the amount of fat/cholesterol you eat has NOTHING to do with the amount of fat/cholesterol in your body. Your body will only store fat when your insulin level goes up. What makes your insulin level rise? Carbohydrates! I was eating thousands of calories each day and the weight just kept coming off. So I wouldn't worry about the fat in the DTG meals.
the fat grams does seem wrong -- we're re-checking
here is what I've learned about the short ribs and prime rib dinner:
Here is the info.
Any more info on the updated
Any more info on the updated nutritional information?

You Rock!
Thanks for digging into this for me (and everyone else asking) John! I know it will be greatly appreciated...and I think many more people will be interesting in the Low Carb....with it's awesome food and lower carbs...if the fat is not actually so high on some meals lol! My body can't handle all the carbs on the low fat plan, so finding a low carb delivery option has been such a blessing! I've lost 5 lbs my first week, and am looking forward to many more GONE! Thanks again!
I'm one of those annoying people that even read toothpaste labels, so I appreciate you and Diet to Go taking my questions and concerns and really looking into it....Diet to Go Rocks!

Just doing my job...
But I do appreciate the thanks Terri! :o)

Don't give up!
Low fat diets just don't work for some people. With my body chemistry, I learned that I need to live on a low carb diet. I tried to just do it on my own and buy low carb versions of frozen diet foods but I never stuck with it because there were too few choices and it got old really fast. Diet to Go has been great. I hit 145 today!!!
Woo hoo!
How much weight have you lost L? I am always on the lookout for great inspirational andmotivation features that showcase dieters who've lost weight with Diet-to-Go.
You are right about low-carb -- I think it works best for men, but my wife has dropped weight on it in the past.
23 Pounds Since April!
I have a thyroid condition, so my body only responds to a low carb diet. Diet to Go has been wonderful. My husband does the low fat, and I do the low carb. What other plan out there makes that work?
When we started in April we did 10 weeks straight, but now we do kind of a maintenance plan. We order two or three weeks of DTG a month, depending on our schedules. It keeps us on track and I know if I put on a few pounds (like I did over the holidays) I have a system to get them back off!
I do work out a lot, but I was doing that before DTG and the weight wasn't budging, even with a personal trainer. It is just so great to have an answer and a plan!
smart game plan!
Sounds like you know what you are doing and what works for you. Keep up the good work. Good luck with the thyroid thing!
Thanks
Well, I would love to lose more. (Who wouldn't!) But when the weight came off so fast between April and July, I thought I could never maintain this 23 pound weight loss! Knowing that I have done that despite a few "hiccups" has been very satisfying!
What was your average weekly weight loss on Low Carb?
I am currently on the low fat menu and was wondering what is your weekly weight loss on the low carb.
Lost it quickly!
I lost 23 pounds in three months on the low carb. I went from 168 to 145. I have kept it off (since July) by doing DTG for two or three weeks each month. I think the first two weeks, I lost 5 pounds each week, and then a pound or two after that.
Thanks for your reply. I am
Thanks for your reply. I am considering the low carb plan so I was curious about the weight loss. I did low carb on my own previously and was very successful so I wanted to see how this plan stacks up. It certainly is very convenient and the food is pretty good. Thanks.
good luck and keep us informed of your progress
You will enjoy the food... and the weight loss! Let me know how it goes.

Low Carb Stomach Upset?
I'm finishing my first week of low carb. I've begun getting nauseated after lunch and dinner, and during the night. Is it just me or has anyone else felt this way after eating these meals? Considering what I used to eat to get 100 lbs overweight, I wonder why the high fat content now would affect me this way??
stomach upset...
I'm on the low-fat plan 1200 cal, and the first week I also had an upset stomach, cramping and nausea. I thought I had food poisioning or the flu at first. I ate very healthfully before joining, so in a way, the diet feels like a lot of food for me, and I'm wondering if my system misses fresh produce (namely salads; what i used to eat). This week I'm supplementing my plan with fresh produce, and I'm portioning the other meals into four mini-meals. I think the stomach upset will get better when I go back to planning six mini-meals a day, every two hours.
Nausea after eating DTG... Me too!!!
I just started the low fat 1200cal plan 2 days ago. I noticed the same nausea and upset stomach and cramping and yes, I too felt like I had food poisioning also. I also was eating healthy before starting the DTG, mostly salads and lean meat, following the American Heart Association diet which I had lost 6lbs on in a week. I actually visited this blog to see if anyone else had the symptoms. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone. Did you also notice that you had to make frequent trips to the restroom like you had taken a water pill or something? I had been monitoring my water intake since starting my diet making sure that I drank the amount I am supposed to. So, I have not increased my fluid intake since starting DTG, it has remained the same but I'm making more trips to the restroom. Everything I've ate so far seems either tarty or has a spicy kick to it. It isn't much longer after I eat that I have the nausea. Being that local pickup doesn't have an ingredients list it makes it difficult to pin point what might be causing the these issues. Hopefully this isn't a dumb question but, is something else being added to the food to enchance the vitamins, diuretic, or laxative either herbs or natural foods?
Absolutely not
You asked: "is something else being added to the food to enchance the vitamins, diuretic, or laxative either herbs or natural foods?" The simple answer is of course not. Our food is checked by the FDA. We would never risk our great name by stooping to any artificial means of weight loss.
I can't say why you felt the way you did after eating our food. I have followed the plans for years without ever encountering any of these symptoms or effects. Neither has the vast majority of our satisfied customers.
Good luck with your weight loss and always feel free to call customer service at 1-800-743-SLIM (7546) with your concerns.
never happened to me
I have been following Diet-to-Go's low-carb and low-fat diets on and off over the past 10 years and I have never experienced any stomach issues. Perhaps it be the nervous stomach associated with the excitement and anxiety of starting a new diet? Just a thought!
Good luck to everyone and thanks for giving our great program a try!
John - do you have any insight?
John - do you have any insight into the question I posed above (this is TerriP64, on a random computer!)? I still have questions about the fat grams as listed, asn don't know who to ask about this.
Thanks,
~Terri
I've forwarded your question
I would guess it is from the rib meat and the thick mushroom gravy... It does seem high but fat grams can add up fast. When I get the official answer I will get it back to you Terri.
If you don't like a particular meal -- or you're scared by the fat content of that low-carb choice (this one is yummy I might add) -- then by all means use the substitution section. I always enjoyed that meal when doing low carb ... even if it always left me wanting more meat! :o)
Thanks John!
I have done low carb in the past, so I know the dietary intake of fat is pretty high....which is fine, as long as it works lol! I have just counted grams of this and that so much, and am a research junkie...so it just seemed high for what was in that meal. And you are correct....that meal is quite tasty :o)
~Terri
I just ordered the low-carb
I just ordered the low-carb plan and was looking at the nutrition info. I thought the same thing, about the fat content being very high. Has that effected you? Too much fat will make me sick.
On low carb diets, your body
On low carb diets, your body will typically use the fat for energy. Since you are not getting that much in carbs, your body must have something else to use for energy. Since you have so few carbs to use to produce glycogen, your body will burn the fat for your energy needs, plus will also use your own body fat as energy, particularly if you get and stay in mild ketosis.
Low-carb diet
I don't think that low-carb means high-fat. I'm disappointed if that is the case. I'd rather have a bigger portion of grilled meat than a small meat portion doused in sauce. How healthy can it be to include saturated fats? It's making me rethink using diet to go. John, any comments? Thanks.
Low carb does not equal high fat
Our registered dietitian would string us up if we tried to replace the carbs with fat. Rest assured you are getting a balanced diet -- just one without as many carbs as you may normally eat!
You will see above
My question to John about this and his reply. He is looking into this issue, and is going to get us some definitive answers.
And I agree...I want adequate fat to offset the carb deficit...but I want my body to burn MY fat...not the fat in the food!
