New with questions!
Hi all,
I'm doing the 1600 calorie low-fat plan, and I have some questions:
- What if you hate milk??
- How do snacks fit into the plan? I assume all the food they sent me adds up to 1600 calories per day yet I see that DTG sells snacks.
- Is coffee allowed?
Thanks!

hi Linda
If it's just milk you hate, but not cheese etc, then no problem. Simply add a calcium supplement to your daily ritual.
Snacks are for those people who may not be getting enough calories for ehalthy weight loss. Not eating enough is bad for the dieter as your body tends to go into a starvation mode and your metabolism slows, causing weight plateaus.
Sure coffee is allowed, just be careful with the little extras you add (milk, cream, sugar) as they can aded up to a lot of extra calories. Black coffee is basically zero calories.
Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. Another question which I couldn't find the answer to on this site: Can we eat fruit, I mean real fruit and not the little fruit cups they send? And if so, is any fruit ok or are there certain ones to avoid?
Thank you!
the official stance on fruit and other extras
I asked and got this response:
"it's up to her! If she's on the low-fat plan that is (NOT low carb). But basically it's up to the customer how many (if any) calories they will add. We can't recommend because it depends on the individuals calorie goals.
"And that's also the answer for adding anything. Some people ask, 'can I add a dinner salad?' Again, that's at their discretion."
Hope this helps, Linda.
I'll check with the experts
but I would imagine fruit is okay if you have the calories to spare. for instance, if you are on a 1200-calorie plan but your body weight requires more calories then skim milk and fruit are good choices. Diet to Go sends me whole fruit -- oranges, pears and apples -- with my 1600-cal low-fat plan.
fruit is a much better snack choice than some processed snack bar. it's also better than a glass of juice. why? because you get the calories from several pieces of fruit in one cup of juice.
Fruit juice in meals
A good portion of my DTG meals come with fruit juice (orange, apple, cranberry). I'd much prefer a piece of fruit rather than the juice, for the reasons you've noted. Can we convince the DTG powers that be to switch from so much juice to more whole fruit? I am on a local menu, Wash DC.
Thanks for the responses. I
Thanks for the responses. I too would prefer fruit rather than juices. I've never been a big fan of fruit juice! I would like the powers that be to consider giving us fruit instead of juices. I'm on the low-fat 1600 calories plan.
Thanks!
maybe one day...
Who knows. Withn our advances in technology maybe one day our meal plans will allow you to a la carte your meals and extras. Until then, check out how many calories are in a 6-ounce juice and swap it out yourself for a piece of fruit that closely matches the caloric values.
A stop at the fruit stand still beats a full-blown shopping spree at the grocery store!
Wow!!!!
Boy am I pleased with DTG's customer service! I emailed DTG, asking if it was possible to have my fruit juices replaced with fruit, figuring there was no way they'd do this. But, I received an email today saying they'll put a note on my account to replace fruit juice with fruit! I'm on the DC local veggie menu. This is wonderful news for me. Way to go DTG!
