The most critical component of weight loss is eating a clean, healthy diet that controls for calorie and portion control.

If you’re leveraging one of Diet-to-Go’s healthy meal plans, you’re already on your way to losing weight and seeing results.*

But fitness is a big part of it too. One great way to get active is by setting and focusing on a daily step goal.

There are tons of products out there that will track and motivate you to reach your daily step goal. (We even reviewed a bunch of them for you!)

Find one that works for you and set a daily step goal. Then, focus on what you’re going to do each day to reach that goal.

We rounded up 7 foolproof ways you can reach that step goal day-in and day-out.

    dancing
    1. Do what you love.

What’s something you enjoy? Is it going on evening walks? Waking up early to go on a hike? Perhaps you like to dance or play a sport. Whatever your pleasure, schedule time each day to do it. It’s a great way to get those steps in without even thinking about it.

art-exhibit2. Get creative with your activities.

There are plenty of activities that will force you off the couch. Schedule a historical walking tour. Buy tickets to a museum or art exhibit. Attend a concert. Heck, even something as simple as shopping ensures you’re moving. A step is a step no matter how you slice it.

    alarm-on-bedside
    3. Alarms -- use them.

Most fitness trackers have built-in alarms that buzz or go off to remind you to get up and go for a short walk or stretch. Take advantage of those alarms, especially if you work in an office. It can be easy to get sucked into whatever’s on the computer screen. Alarms will remind you to get up off the chair.

    walking-up-stairs
    4. Inconvenience is your friend.

Why do we all search for the parking spot closest to the entrance? It’s because most of us have a default setting that focuses on convenience. But guess what? The more inconvenient we make it for ourselves, the more likely we are to get extra steps in and reach our step goals. You’ve heard it before, now do it. Park far away from the entrance. Take the stairs. Walk to lunch or your favorite coffee spot. Every time you do it, you’re winning those steps.

cleaning-kitchen5. Bust out the vacuum cleaner.

Cleaning is one of the greatest activities for stepping. Our minds are focused on what we’re doing — scrubbing, sweeping, dusting, whatever it may be — and as we go, we’re seriously racking up those step counts. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

    walk-around6. Create a power hour.

Think about an hour during the day when you have a little wiggle room. Dedicate that hour to getting as many steps in as possible. Walk around the house. Do jumping jacks. Go check the mail, and take a lap around the block while you’re at. Whatever you do, make sure you’re on your feet and moving the entire hour.

watching-tv7. Make commercial breaks step breaks.

Rather than sit through commercials during your favorite evening TV shows or sports games, stand up and walk around the living room while they’re on. You’ll be shocked at how quickly they add up!
