    In Cathrine’s words...

    How did February Go...

OK, let's back up a little...January was rough. After making it through the holiday season for the first time in years without gaining at least 10 pounds (and actually losing two pounds), I lost my focus. I felt so confident about the major changes in my habits that I started a year ago. I stopped checking my weight twice a week. There were a few days when it was just too cold to head to the gym at 5 a.m., and I was too tired to go at the end of the day. Three weeks into the new year, I had not lost a pound. I had not gained, but I had not lost. I added weights to my cardio routine, so I told myself it must be the muscle I was building.

We have always been told muscle weighs more than fat, right? Surely that was the case. Or was it?

     Getting real...

Then I got honest with myself. I had not managed my Diet-to-Go deliveries well over the holidays, in spite of how easy it is to do so. I was able to freeze several meals but would often forget to take them out to defrost in the morning. This delayed my meal preparation slightly at the hardest time of the day for me not to snack. So, I snacked. No chips or cookies; carrots and hummus or roasted broad beans but added calories I did not need. I was also not faithfully recording everything I ate. No wonder the scale was not moving!

    ‘Another Way’...

It wasn’t until I was asked to provide updates about my weight loss that I really examined ways I had recently lost my focus. So, I have added a new tool to my arsenal — blogging. As an educator, I understand the importance of reflecting on your practice. At a recent meeting where school administrators discussed successful practices to improve student achievement, one slide summed up my thoughts about my journey to better health:

    “Another Way”.
    No one way.
    Not always a best way.
    Innovate.
    Take risk to improve.
    Gather evidence.
    Share your success.

I have tried many ways to lose weight and will not ask you to believe my way is the “one” way, but I can tell you I have never felt healthier. It might not be the best way, but it is working for me.

    Back on-track with Diet-to-Go…

Finding a service to provide me prepared, balanced, healthy and delicious meals was an innovation for me. Working out was a risk, but I am learning to like it! I know I must honestly record everything I eat, and the calories I burn, every single day. My hope is that sharing updates about my success will help me to maintain focus, reach my goals and might inspire someone else to find the way that works for them! I am back on track.
