  1. How a Sales Exec Stopped Comparing Herself to Others and Lost 50 Pounds as a Result

    A Diet-to-Go Success Story

When you spend most of your time comparing yourself to others, it only drops you deeper into a pattern of negativity that gets you nowhere.

Just ask Jen Carroll, a sales executive in the packaged foods industry.

Jen always struggled with her body image, even when she was in high school and played competitive sports — a time when she was athletic and healthy.

“I was too busy comparing myself to everyone around me to realize that I was ok,” Jen said. “I was healthy and I looked healthy and strong, even if I was a little heavier than everyone else.”

And unfortunately, that constant comparing herself to others led Jen to a dark place.

“I used that as an excuse and food as a comfort so the past couple years my weight got out of control,” she said.

    The Struggle

Jen spent much of her adult years yo-yo dieting, a common practice by people who struggle with their weight that rarely, if ever, leads to long-term, lasting results.

“I have tried it all — fad diets, fad pills and fad workout routines,” she said.

Nothing worked. On Labor Day 2016, Jen was at her heaviest and miserable.

“I went away for a long weekend with some friends I've known for 20-plus years,” Jen said. “During a normal 'oh I've gained so much weight' conversation, I realized that I was within a few pounds of my friend's husband, who is 6'4 and is a 'big guy'. I was devastated. That was my reality check to make a change.”

    The Diet-to-Go Solution

And change she did. Jen signed up for Diet-to-Go’s Carb30 plan because she was drawn to the concept behind the plan: That cutting carbs is a quick way to see the pounds drop off.

“I needed to see results in order to keep myself motivated, so that was the quickest way to make it happen,” she said.

Despite a tough first week, Jen said she found motivation by joining Diet-to-Go’s Facebook Community.

“It’s nice to see other peoples’ stories, challenges and successes,” Jen said. “Whether I am being inspired by someone else or sharing something I think could help, the interaction is good for me.”

By Day 8, she felt amazing.

“I wasn't hungry between meals and I saw the scale moving*,” Jen said.
“At that point, I knew that Diet-to-Go was a winner.”

Since starting the plan, Jen has shed more than 50 pounds*, and only has 30 pounds more to go before reaching her goal weight. Even more importantly, Jen stopped comparing herself to others and made her weight loss journey about herself, and no one else.

“I am at an age where I finally don't care what anyone else thinks and I am trying to live my life. I decided to just be comfortable in my own skin,” she said.

It’s a philosophy that keeps her on-track. Jen does have “cheat” days because she believes, like Diet-to-Go does, that everything should be done in moderation if it’s going to last.

Along the way, the little things have meant all the difference in tracking her success.

“[It’s] putting on a pair of jeans that haven’t fit for a while or buying something new in a smaller size,” she said.

And another time, while out to dinner, Jen’s friend took a selfie of them that was a big deal, too.

“When I saw the picture I was like, ‘Damn! I have lost weight!’” she said. “I put that picture side-by-side with one from a few months earlier and was so proud of myself.”
