    Living a healthy life isn’t always easy. We are constantly bombarded with decadent temptations and conflicting advice in the news. What’s a well-meaning, health-conscious individual to do? If we’ve learned anything here at Diet-to-Go it’s that healthy living is not an all or nothing proposition. Healthy living is about making smart decisions more often than not and incorporating small changes into our lives to make a big difference in the long run. So besides eating healthy what are some healthy living tips we should incorporate into our lives?

    Healthy Living Tip #1: Don’t Smoke

    Smoking affects every part of your body; from increasing your risk of coronary heart disease and a whole host of cancers to decreased circulation and infertility problems. Smoking is your health’s worst enemy. If you don’t already smoke, don’t start! And if you do smoke, quit! Quitting smoking will be the single biggest change you can make to live a healthier life.

    Healthy Living Tip #2: Move More

    Moving our bodies every day is critical to living a healthy life. And we’re not talking about hitting the gym for an intense 3-hour high impact workout. Getting even just thirty minutes a day can make a huge difference in your overall health and well being. It doesn’t have to be done all at once, or even be that intense. Walking is a great exercise that can be done almost everywhere and is something almost everyone can start to do today. 




    Healthy Living Tip #3: Sleep Enough

    Sleep is our body’s way of rejuvenating itself. When we sleep our bodies are repairing and rebuilding muscles and bones and regulating our hormones. It allows our body to naturally detox and prepare for the next day. When we don’t sleep we are putting our health at major risk. Getting the sleep you need each night will allow you to live a much healthier (and happier) life. 




    Healthy Living Tip #4:
    Practice Good Oral Hygiene

    The health of our mouths is very closely related to our overall health. Gum disease has been linked with everything from heart disease to pneumonia to breast cancer. Recent research has even indicated there might be a link to being overweight and having gum disease. Whether one leads to the other is not determined but a definite link has been shown. The bottom line is, if you don't take care of your mouth, your whole body pays the price. 




    Healthy Living Tip #5: Wash Hands

    Want a simple yet effective way to prevent disease and live a healthier life? Wash your hands. It’s a simple thing to do but yet many of us don’t; and many more don’t do it correctly. By incorporating this healthy habit into our lives we can make a tremendous impact on not only our health but also the health of those around us as 80% of all infectious diseases are transmitted by touch.
